Darning Hand Knits Class
Taught by Erin Eggenburg of wrenbirdarts
When: Thursday, October 24th from 6-9pm, in-person
Skill Level: Beginners welcome; some knitting experience is helpful.
Materials Provided:
-darning needles (or yarn needles)
-thread and yarn
-needle threader
-embroidery hoop and sampler material
-instructional handout
Class Description:
Fix your tattered socks, sweaters, and knit textiles with a simple woven type of mending known as darning! In this 3-hour workshop, students will learn the technique and practice 2 styles of darning and practice each technique on a provided sampler. Learn how to repair both visibly with surface darned patches and bright contrasting colors and textures, or repair invisibly using a duplicate stitch and matching fibers. Bring your knits in need of darning, and leave with a plan for mending!
In this 3-hour workshop you will:
-learn what darning is
-gain insight into darning materials and choosing materials to use for specific darning projects
-create a darning sampler highlighting 2 darning techniques: surface darning and duplicate stitch
-all materials needed
Instructor Bio
Erin Eggenburg is a maker, mender, and instructor who resides in Portland, OR. She is the owner of wrenbirdarts, an online mending and embroidery supply shop. In 2021, Erin released her first book, The Mending Directory. Erin teaches a variety of visible mending and embroidery classes regularly.
