Event Details

Teacher: Theressa Silver

Sessions: 1 Workshop

When: Sunday, August 11th

Time: 4:00pm-7:00pm (Discussion/Class 4:00pm-6:00pm with Guided Open Sketch hour 6:00pm-7:00pm)

Skill Level: Any

Materials: Bring paper and pencil (optional: colored pencils or markers) and yarn and needles for swatching. Also bring any stitch dictionaries, pattern books, or other source materials that you’d like to draw on for your design.

We will provide an assortment of stitch dictionaries and other materials to use in class.

Come see Theressa's beautiful samples from her pattern book, "Knitting Wild" and learn how you too can create patterns inspired by the natural world!

From Mt. Hood, to Forest Park, to the Oregon Coast, we are surrounded by natural spaces and the wildlife that live there. Why not incorporate that into your knitting? Using examples from her book, “Knitting Wild,” she will show how pattern, color, and texture can be used to evoke both the sight and the feel of the natural world.

This workshop will start with a two hour class followed by guided open sketch hour for the remaining time. You can work together, ask questions, get suggestions, or do your own thing. Anything goes!

Theressa will also be at Weird Sisters on Friday, August 9th from 5:30-7pm showing off her work and signing copies of "Knitting Wild". A great companion event to this Sunday design workshop.

Theressa Silver is a freelance designer, teacher, and author. Her most recent book, “Knitting Wild” showcases the beauty of America’s national parks and wildlife refuges. Theressa is a biologist by training and the influence of math and science can be seen in many of her designs. When she is not knitting she likes to be outside kayaking or hiking. She lives in Milwaukie, OR with her husband, son, two cats, and a dog, all of whom occasionally participate one way or another in the knitting process. Theressa can be found on Ravelry and Instagram as “argentgal.”
